Description
What the Results Mean

These tests look for the antibodies your body creates in response to the HIV virus, rather than the virus itself.

Negative Result: A negative result means the test did not detect HIV antibodies. However, it does not definitively mean you do not have HIV if you had a recent exposure.

Positive Result: A positive result on a self-test is preliminary. Because self-tests are screening tools, you must follow up with a healthcare provider for a confirmatory blood test to verify the results.

QUALITY CONTROL

  • A procedural control is not included in the test. A colored line appearing in the control line region
(C) is considered an internal procedural control. It confirms sufficient specimen volume, adequate
membrane wicking and correct procedural technique.
  • Control standards are not supplied with this kit; however, it is recommended that positive and
negative controls be tested as a good laboratory practice to confirm the test procedure and to
verify proper test performance.

LIMITATIONS OF TEST

1. The HIV 1/2/O Rapid Test Device is limited to provide a qualitative detection. The intensity of
the test line does not necessarily correlate to the concentration of the antibody in the blood.
2. The results obtained from this test are intended to be an aid in diagnosis only. Each physician
must interpret the results in conjunction with the patient ' s history, physical findings, and
other diagnostic procedures.
3. A negative test result indicates that antibodies to HIV 1/2/O are either not present or at levels
undetectable by the test.

FAQ

Q: How accurate is an HIV self-test?

A:  Yes, at-home HIV tests are highly accurate when used correctly, but they have a "window period." Most home tests detect HIV antibodies rather than the virus itself, so they can miss recent infections acquired in the last 3 months.

Q:How soon can HIV be detected by a self-test?

A: HIV self-test can begin detecting the virus as early as 20 to 90 days after exposure. This timeline varies because tests look for the antibodies your body creates in response to HIV, and it takes time for these antibodies to reach detectable levels.

Q: How is an HIV self-test done?

A:Using an at-home HIV test is simple, private, and gives results in minutes. Depending on the kit type, follow the specific instructions provided by the manufacturer.

Q: Can I trust my 3 month HIV test?

A: HIV tests after the 3 month window are more than 99.97% accurate. They work for all types and subtypes of HIV. Very few medical tests have 100% accuracy. There will still be rare cases where someone is HIV positive and not picked up.

Milk: While once believed to soothe ulcers, it actually prompts your stomach to produce more acid.

Q: Can HIV signs show in 3 days?

A: No, HIV symptoms do not show in 3 days. The minimum incubation period is about 7 to 14 days, and symptoms most commonly appear 2 to 4 weeks after exposure. Symptoms within 3 days are almost certainly unrelated to HIV.
